1st SAUCE programme at Vienna University of Technology
28.09.2009 - 02.10.2009
From September 28th till October 2nd 2009, 900 pupils from the age of 10 to 12 are invited to attend the first “Schools at University for Climate and Energy” – programme (SAUCE) in Vienna, Austria.
Approx. 35 school classes from various schools will be able to take part in a very interesting and exciting one-day-programme (9a.m. - 2p.m.) during the whole week. Venues of SAUCE are the main building of the Vienna University of Technology, the surrounding buildings of the Faculties as well as local sites like “Technisches Museum Wien” and “Planetarium Wien”.
Each day will start with a welcome lecture for all pupils in a large lecture hall to impart university’s atmosphere. Split up in several groups the children will then be invited to attend various workshops and lectures dealing with aspects of energy use, renewable energy and climate change issues. Monday and Thursday will consist of two hour workshops while Tuesday will feature three hour workshops. On Wednesday several one-hour lectures are offered. On Friday – the final day of the programme – as a highlight a video conference connecting the Viennese with concurrent SAUCE event in Berlin will be held. A pair of scale symbolically balancing the earth’s climate using inputs from Vienna and Berlin will show its sensitiveness to pupils and participating teachers.
Each single day of Vienna’s SAUCE programme will end with a playful reflexion on the experience made. Additionally, a teachers training course will be held two weeks prior to the schools’ university.
A detailed programme (in German only) with lists of lectures will be available by end of May ´09 at the Austrian SAUCE-homepage (www.schools-at-university.eu/wien).
