2nd SAUCE programme at Vienna University of Technology
22.02.2010 - 26.02.2010
From February 22 to 26, 2010, 1000 pupils aged 10 to 12 are invited to attend the second “Schools at University for Climate and Energy” – programme (SAUCE) in Vienna, Austria.
Approx. 40 school classes from various schools will be able to take part in a very interesting and exciting one-day-programme (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.) during the whole week. Venues of SAUCE are the main building of the Vienna University of Technology, the surrounding buildings of the Faculties as well as several local sites like “Technisches Museum Wien”, “Planetarium Wien”, a hydro power station and a biomass CHP-plant.
Each day will start with a welcome lecture for all pupils in a large lecture hall to impart university’s atmosphere. Split up in several groups, the children will then be offered to attend various workshops and lectures dealing with aspects of energy use, renewable energy and climate change issues. Tuesday will feature three hour workshops and exciting lectures while the rest of the week will consist of two hour workshops.
Each day of Vienna’s SAUCE programme – except Tuesday – will end with a playful reflexion on the experience made. As a highlight of the programme a pair of scales symbolically balancing the earth’s climate will show its sensitiveness to pupils and participating teachers. Additionally, a teachers training course will be held two weeks prior to the schools’ university (Feb. 11, 2010).
A detailed programme (in German) with lists of lectures and interesting additional information, including first event’s best pictures, is available at the Austrian SAUCE-homepage. www.schools-at-university.eu/wien
